Modern Deck and Fence, Lyme

The original fir decking was showing its age. We removed all of the decking, rails and deck wrap. We replaced it with an updated and more modern aesthetic. The decking is Ipe, the deck wrap is clear red cedar and the balusters are rebar. The decking was installed with a hidden fastener system in order to give it a streamline look and to keep it nice and smooth on the feet. The rebar's purpose is two-fold; it helps to keep clear sight lines through the railing system, and it also adds a bit of an industrial feel to the modern deck. The rebar will eventually rust and will weather naturally along with the decking. A tree was already grown into a planter in the middle of the deck, so we updated the well around it to give it a more comfortable feel. The same aesthetic was taken from the wrap under the deck and was carried through around the back of the house as a fence to hide the exterior mechanical units. We also used this look on the guest house to hide the propane tank. Many hours will be spent on this deck reading books and enjoying the flowers and wildlife that surround it.
